Coach Matt Eberflus for Clock Management Debacle
Hall of Fame coach and veteran Fox NFL analyst Jimmy Johnson criticized the clock management decisions made by Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus following the team's 33-30 defeat to the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day. With only 33 seconds remaining and one timeout available, the Bears found themselves down by three points and near field goal range when rookie quarterback Caleb Williams was sacked at the Detroit 41-yard line, pushing them out of a viable field goal opportunity. Instead of halting the clock to regroup, confusion reigned, and the next play occurred with less than seven seconds left. Williams attempted a deep pass that was incomplete as time expired, leaving the Bears to return to Chicago with a timeout unused.
